The SNU Senate deliberates on important policies concerning the operation and development of the University.

Organization

Chairperson
  • The Chairperson shall represent the Senate, preside over its meetings and the business thereof.
  • The Chairperson shall be elected from among the Senators and the term of the Chairperson is two years from the date when he/she is elected.
Vice Chairperson
  • The Vice Chairperson shall assist the Chairperson and be an acting Chairperson provided that the Chairperson cannot perform his/her duties due to any extenuating circumstances.
  • The term of the Vice Chairperson is two years from the date when he/she is elected.
Steering Committee
  • The Senate shall have a Steering Committee of no more than 11 Senators for efficient management of the Senate including the preparation of agendas for plenary meetings.
  • The Steering Committee shall be composed of the Chairperson, the Vice Chairperson, the Chairpersons of Standing Committees, and the General Secretary. The additional members of Steering Committee shall be determined by the Plenary committee.
  • The committee shall take charge of the following matters concerning:
  • Make decisions on whether to table agendas for plenary meetings;
  • Refer relevant agendas to Standing Committees for deliberations;
  • Propose agendas for plenary meetings in accordance with the Senate Regulation Article 2 Section 1 (7);
  • Assign each Senator to an appropriate Standing Committee;
  • Discuss in advance the agendas for plenary meetings;
  • Deal with agendas proposed by Senators; [Amended on 2013.4.3.]
  • Deal with matters relevant for the management of the Senate. [Amended on 2013.4.3.]
Committee of Education
  • The committee shall take charge of the following matters concerning:
  • Education and management of educational affairs;
  • The establishment and abolition of colleges, graduate schools, departments, and divisions;
  • Revising the Bylaws that are related to education;
  • Establishment, amendment and abolition of regulations on education;
Committee of Research
  • The committee shall take charge of the following matters concerning:
  • Research and basic plans on research;
  • The establishment and abolition of important research institutes;
  • Revising the Bylaws that are related to research
Committee of Planning and Finance
  • The committee shall take charge of the following matters concerning:
  • Medium-term and long-term plans for the management and development of the university;
  • Personnel to be recommended by the Senate on the basis of statutes, the Bylaws, and other regulations;
  • The establishment, amendment and abolition of regulations concerning the Senate;
Committee of Environment, Cultre, and Welfare
  • The committee shall take charge of the following matters concerning:
  • The environment of the university, the culture of the SNU community, and the welfare of the faculty and staff;
  • Revising the Bylaws that are related to the welfare of the faculty/staff;
Secretariat
  • The secretariat shall be established to support the Senate. [Amended in June. 12, 2013]
  • The executive office shall have one head and a few staffs members and the office may have researchers to assist the business of the Senate. [Amended on 2013.4.3.]
