Rules for the Election of Senators

Enacted on July 10, 2012.

  • Article 1 (Purpose) The purpose of this rule is to determine the procedure for the election of the SNU Senate members in accordance with Article 22, Section 5 of the SNU statutes and Article 2, Section 6 of the Senate Operation Rules.
  • Article 2 (Range of Application) This detailed enforcement regulation shall be applied to election procedures for both faculty Senators and staff Senators.
  • Article 3 (Qualification of a Senator) All the faculty and staff members are qualified to be a Senator with the exception of: the President of the university; members of the Board of Directors; vice presidents of the university; deans and vice deans of colleges graduate schools; dean and vice dean of the college of liberal studies; chief librarian of the Seoul National University Library; dean and vice dean of the faculty of liberal education; all the heads and directors of the university administration; all the deputy directors of the university administration; editor-in-chief of the Seoul National University News; vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Seoul National University Foundation; executive director of the Seoul National University Foundation; president and vice president of the Seoul National University Hospital; presidents of affiliated hospitals; president and vice president of Seoul National University Dental Hospital.
  • Article 4 (Election Time) There shall be an election for a Senator at least 30 days before the expiration of the incumbency. Where a vacancy occurs, the Senator for the vacancy shall be elected within 30 days from the day of the occurrence of the reason.
  • Article 5 (Election Procedure) ① The Chairperson shall notify the upcoming election to the deans of colleges or schools where new Senators are to be elected.
    ② Each dean of college or school shall notify the internal regulation for the election of Senators to the Senate before the election, and the same applies to any amendments of the internal regulation previously notified to the Senate.
    ③ Each dean of college or school shall preside over the election of a new Senator in accordance with the internal regulation notified to the Senate as the above Section 2, and notify its results to the Senate without delay.
  • Article 6 (Method of Election) A Senator shall be elected by means of secret ballot unless there are extenuating circumstances.
  • ADDENDA (2012. 7. 10.)
  • Article 1 (Date of Enforcement) The present rules for the election of Senators shall come into force as from the day of its promulgation.
  • Article 2 (Abolition of the Other Relevant Regulation) The previous Guidelines for the Election of a Senator shall be abolished simultaneously with the enforcement of this detailed enforcement regulation.
